At 7 A.M. on Sunday morning, nearly 5,000 runners and walkers made their way to the starting line for the 3rd annual Louisiana Marathon and Half. The beautiful course meandered along the lakes of LSU and was surprisingly hilly, with runners having to cross bridges early in the race, making it a somewhat difficult course for those used to the usually flat Louisiana landscape. The size of the race doubled from the previous year, making for a large crowd of spectators at various parts of the course. As the half marathon finished downtown BR, Kevin Castlle broke the course record with a time of 1:08. For the women, Laura Carleton, former LSU Tiger, won with a time of 1:23. After the Half marathon was complete, spectators turned their attention to the grueling 26.2 miles that ended with Gary Krugger, of Flagstaff, AZ racing to win with a time of 2 hours and 38 minutes. On the women’s side, Baton Rouge’s Rosalie Teeuwen, finished first clocking in at 2 hours and 48 minutes. After runners continued to cross the finish line with new PR’s and big smiles, they drifted over to the after party. This Crazy Food Festival was a hit, featured some of the best known restaurants in the state, including Acme Oyster House, Boudreaux & Thibodeaux’s, The Chimes along with other delectable restaurants. The entertainment was provided by Big Sam Funky Nation, Michael Foster Project and the Bucktown All Stars. Needless to say after such a great showing, everyone was left counting down until the 2015 Louisiana Marathon.
